We carry out fundraising activities in Scotland in order to raise money for St. John’s School for the Deaf in The Gambia. This is spearheaded by Project Gambia’s Fundraising Team Leaders, Aidan Curivan and Rebecca Lafferty. We are continually looking for new and interesting ways to fundraise – and would welcome any ideas on this! Some of the fundraising methods we currently use are shown below.
Project Gambia has a strong and firm partnership with the Diocese of Motherwell, Diocese of Paisley and Archdiocese of Glasgow, following our support from Bishops Toal and Keenan. This partnership has proved life-changing for Project Gambia – and resulted in fundraising of over £18,000. This is a figure which is rapidly growing, as Project Gambia volunteers travel to chapels every weekend to spread word about our mission in West Africa.
Every year, Project Gambia runs a campaign, allowing people to sponsor classrooms in the school for a year. The cost of sponsoring a classroom is £100 for the year. Included in this, there will be a plaque created which will be displayed in the entrance to the school. Whether you wish to sponsor a classroom for yourself/your family, or in memory of a loved one, we will create a personalised plaque for you and pictures of the children in the school holding your plaque. If you’re interested in sponsoring a classroom, please get in touch!
Several times a year, audiences travel from near and far to our Soul Music Nights, with DJs and musicians from all over the UK and beyond – all in aid of St. John’s School for the Deaf. Although there are several Soul Nights which take place every year, our faithful supporters and soul music lovers are what allowed us to take off. As our charity continues to grow, they have never grown tired of supporting Project Gambia.
One of our charity aid workers, Lynne MacDonald, has taken part in various fundraising events throughout the years – from Marathons to Skydives and Hill climbs. This is a huge source of income for us, and we thank Lynne and all the others who have supported Project Gambia in this way – including Sandy Jack who walked the West Highland Way for Project Gambia in June of this year, raising over £450. If you’d like to do something similar in aid of Project Gambia, please get in touch!
Project Gambia regularly fundraises through bagpacking events in various local stores – most notably Morrison’s and B&M Bargains. The support we have had from these stores so far has been outstanding – and we are excited to continue travelling to local stores in the coming months, never stopping from raising funds for the children we support in The Gambia.
We regularly fundraise in local schools. Most notably, Uddingston Grammar High School in Uddingston. Our most recent dress-down day in Uddingston Grammar yielded over £400 – a fantastic total! We have also received support from St. Mary’s Primary School in Larkhall and Our Lady & St. John’s Primary School in Blackwood.
Since signing up for Gift Aid with HMRC from July of 2018, Project Gambia will receive a 25% boost on donations received by UK Taxpayers.
Amazonsmile, a programme ran by Amazon, allows Project Gambia to receive a donation from Amazon every time someone orders using Amazon smile. To visit our Amazon smile page, please visit smile.amazon.co.uk and select “Project Gambia: People Feeding People “
We receive regular donations from many supporters – of which it would be impossible to thank them all on this page! We greatly appreciate the donations we continually receive from our supporters – without them, our charity would not be possible.
Thank you to Experience Days for providing us with a £50 voucher to use as a prize in our upcoming Winter Ball – on 23/11/19! We greatly appreciate the support.
