A partnership with ENT surgeon Mr Arunachalam Iyer & his NHS Lanarkshire colleagues has yielded magnificent results. Over 1,500 digital hearing aids have been delivered—supporting pupils of the school and the neighbouring, hearing-impaired community. Mr. Iyer and his medical team journeyed to the school in 2019 in an attempt to investigate potential ways of improving the hearing of the children.
In Lent of 2019, a young child at St. John’s School for the Deaf, Alieu who was born without ears and totally deaf came to Scotland and received the gift of hearing on his 14th Birthday. This life-changing surgery was performed by Dr. Iyer and his team at NHS Lanarkshire in Munklands Hospital. Alieu is now back home in The Gambia and is doing amazing, he has now also transferred to a mainstream school where he will receive the best education possible!
